My Story
Andrew's journey in music and sound began when he was five years old when he began taking piano lessons. His first musical inspiration came from the music he heard at Mass every Sunday as a toddler. From there, he began singing in the youth choir at his home parish. Andrew was always drawn to what the organist was doing. She was so gracious and supportive and began teaching him organ. Fast forward to his freshman year of high school, the organist retired and Andrew was called on to fill her shoes at the Sunday 8am Mass.
Upon graduation from high school, Andrew pursued his bachelor's degree at the University of Wisconsin- Oshkosh in music business and piano performance. It was at UW Oshkosh where Andrew began studying sound and recording technology as a part of his music business degree. Andrew was also the Director of Music and Organist for St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Parish during his studies.
After graduation from college, Andrew moved out east where he worked as the music assistant for Goodspeed Musicals, an off-broadway regional theatre, The Cathedral of Saint Joseph in Hartford, Connecticut, and as an assistant keyboard tech for Jeff Marder, who was the chief electronic music designer for Newsies, Aladdin, and Disney's The Lion King to name a few. It was Andrew's time out east working in theatrical sound and at the cathedral where his passion for sacred music and sound technology took off.
After a couple of years, Andrew moved back to Madison, Wisconsin where he worked as a Business Development representative at Full Compass Systems. Andrew received hands on product training in the audio, video, and lighting industry. Andrew worked directly with all of the industry's major manufacturer's including, but not limited to, Shure, Audio Technica, Panasonic, Sony, Allen & Heath, QSC, and many more. This technical training and knowledge Andrew received at Full Compass Systems is what has helped him to bring modern audio video technology into the traditional worship spaces such as large cathedrals.
A few years later in 2017, Andrew received a full-tuition assistantship at the University of Iowa for his Master's in Organ Performance and Sacred Music. Andrew served as an assistant to the organ curator at the University of Iowa as part of his assistantship. This experience provided Andrew with the technical training and knowledge of organ building and also led to his first major organ project at Saint Matthew's Catholic Parish in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Andrew accomplished his first successful pipe organ relocation, restoration, and installation while working in partnership with the organ curator at the University of Iowa. This experience shaped Andrew and prepared him for the Cathedral of Saint Bernard of Clairvaux and the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis organ projects.
Andrew currently serves as the Director of Sacred Music for the Archdiocese and Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis.
